Mozilla has just officially launched Firefox 2.0! Although the final release was posted to their FTP servers earlier today, Mozilla waited until around 17:30 EST to put the official launch site up.

New features include:
Visual Refresh: Firefox 2's theme and user interface have been updated to improve usability without altering the familiarity of the browsing experience.
Built-in phishing protection: Phishing Protection warns users when they encounter suspected Web forgeries, and offers to return the user to their home page.
Improved tabbed browsing: By default, Firefox will open links in new tabs instead of new windows, and each tab will now have a close tab button.
Inline spell checking: A new built-in spell checker enables users to quickly check the spelling of text entered into Web forms

It looks like they've taken some ideas from Opera which is good.

Also, one thing i like about Firefox, is the NoScript extension, that gives you the ability to preemptively block all Java Script from sites, then allow script from trusted sites. It greatly improves your system's security from mallicious code. If you don't have it yet, i suggest you get it. It can be a bit of a pain sometimes, but most of the time it doesn't even affect your web browsing.

Another thing is the ability to only allow images from originating websites, as opposed to those hosted on third party websites, which means you greatly cut down on annoying ads. But again it can be a bit of a pain.

Anywho, Firefox FTW!

All hail the default new tabs for links that would normally open in windows. Probably existed as an extension or option before 2.0, but I love it
