In my lifetime I have never given anyone flowers but I always hear it’s the ‘thing to do’. My question is:
Do girls (or guys) really like receiving flowers, or is its just cliché?

I like getting flowers.. But i hate it when they die and you have to chuck them away.. it seems like such a waste and disrespectful to the person that bought them for you..
James has only got me flowers once..(In two and a half years) ((hint)) Well actually it was just a single red rose and it was for our 1st valentines day together.. I kept it for so long till it like went rotten and was all disgusting.. So i threw it away.. :(
I have got him flowers a couple of times but thats only coz my mum gets free flowers from her work and secretly they are for james' mum not james :P Because he doesnt really appreciate them..

if the flowers have meaning behind them then why wouldnt you dry them/get them dryed, means they'll last forever :)
Flowers are just a small way to show someone that they're appreciated.

Yeah i'm not to keen on getting flowers, like don't get me wrong, its a really sweet idea. But yeah since they die and go all yuck, it feels like a waste and i kind of feel bad when i chuck them out..

if they are flowers from an important occasion i press them by putting them in a heavy book and leaving it for awhile.
i like getting flowers, but they dont need to be massive bunches because to me its the thought that counts. id probably like a handful of self picked flowers from some garden than a massive bunch from a florist. any other girls that are the same??

I've never gotten flowers before :(
I've only ever given my mum flowers before though, mainly because i never really had anyone else to give flowers too. Oh but i did give Bek a bear, and it's holding flowers, does that count...?

I recieved flowers from my boyfriend on Valentines Day, I felt slightly amused when I copped a phone call saying he was around the corner from his stationwhere I was meeting him....more like hiding around the corner :P Flowers don't do anything for me

I don't like flowers.
I've got them from relatives and stuff before on special occasions. But the only time I actually got them from a guy was when this dude sent roses to my house on valentines day, who I didn't know very well...it was kinda creepy.

i used to think that girlsdidnt like getting flowers cause they may think it was overrated; you know ohw on every occasion flowers were suitable, and they may get bored of that
but it turns out some girls do like getting fowers; they feel special/important (from wat i've heard from friends)

Im the same as Heidi, i don't like receiving flowers. Id rather they write me something.. not like a poem or anything even if it's just how they feel, or a memory we shared together. Flowers are too much of a cliche.

Ok sure, buying flowers might be a bit dodgy, i think its okay though.
I was just thinking and what if you got them a pot, with soil, and really nice flower seeds. Give it to the person, and tell them to keep it. Sure it will look lyk crap giving them soil, but a flower will eventually grow. It would last much longer.

^^ if you did that for a girlfriend it could represent the relationship and how it grows if you look after it :) heheheh..heh...
and springer, flowers dont have to be about quantity

Exactly what i had in mind.
Your right it isnt about quantity. But wouldnt you just go crazy over 1 few hundred flowers!? Like i know youd be happy with 1 rose from someone you adore, but what if they gave you like over a hundred of them. That would be something to see.
**BeKi**
1st July, 06, 06:16 PM
to me itd just be the same. yes id be like 'HOLY CRIPE, a hundred flowers?!' but itd still have the same meaning as giving one :)

I agree.
For some reason, i prefer getting something like a letter or a poem or even something that says a couple of words on it. That way, it's so much more memorable and you can keep it forever. Flowers die lol. But i like Beki & Adil's opinions on that soil thing, like ye, it's kinda weird giving your girlfriend (or boyfriend) a pot of flowers complete with soil, but then as it grows, it represents the relationship; I think it's sweet :p

i'm not fussed about getting flowers or not, it can be cliche but cliche still means that he got off his but to make you happy by doing what he has heard girl like.
Flowers are sweet but so are letters - i guess it is more of a personal thing to whether you like them or not.
As for recieving 100 roses, i'd back off from the guy unless we were engadged or in a serious relationship, because honestly thats a bit confronting and stalker-like.

Ah yeah. Back on topic.
Besides the fact I don’t care for flowers, something written would defiantly pluck at the heart strings

I got flowers on my birthday from my boss :) It was kinda weird tho... the best flowers I ever got were from an ex.. it was a big box of flowers but he wrote all these little notes on this card like little memories and sayings and song lyrics and it was really sweet.
I've dried some flowers ive been sent before- you just hang them upsidedown in a sunny spot for a couple weeks then they stay the right color and shape and everything for like ever. **looks at red dried roses on desk**

I love flowers, I think they are really beautiful :) except when I get pricked by the thorns :(
They add a boost on those days when you really need it! eg. my grandma passed away we went to the country for her funeral, we returned home to find flowers that had been delivered to our doorstep from family & friends, it was a reminder that people were thinking of us etc. it was a feeling that was much appreciated. for precious moments like funerals, flowers are a perfect.
Also, when you go to/come out of hospital and everyone buys flowers for you, its really thoughtful and helps to cheer you up!
My boyfriend has bought me flowers plenty of times, most of the time to say sorry. lol. anywho...i find it cute.
So, Yes I do really like receiving flowers.

Ahh, my girlfriend got me a flower today for our 1 month anniversary thingy. If it wasn't for the fact she's never been clubbing, I'd wonder whether she'd visited this thread...
I think it's pretty sweet, as long as it's not the only thing you ever give, time and time again. Cards or anything written, you can keep them just about forever. You can go back and re-read them anytime when you need cheering up etc, and they don't go all grotty and die on you.
Anywho, I think I might press this flower so I can keep it for longer :)

I love recieving flowers.. it's a lovely gesture.. even when it's from a complete stranger in a bar.. I like it.. haha
in a close relationship.. the guesture speaks louder then words.. and in some cases takes away akwardness from an argument.. or the akwardness from the i haven't been bothered talking to you in a while.. because i've been so busy situation...
But.. it's lovely because it's so cute... if a guy gets you a flower.. it's sweetly innocent.. and thats an attractive quality well in my eyes anyway.. something simple, natural and beautiful.. says more then anywords.. cause at the end of the day.. I like you because you so much different from anyone else i know.. or roses are read violets are blue.. my eyes are red because i smoked up with you.. really doesn't tickle my fancy..
it's also nice to get them from a formal date.. i don't know it adds magic to a night.. haha what am i talking about.. I'm so desperately lonely.. HAHA!!

Awww  You know I'm always here for you  .
I like giving flowers to people, however I don't do it more than twice with the same person because then it kind of loses the sentimentality that is behind the flower. In my opinion, flowers are good to give by themselves once or twice to show a lovely gesture. If you use flowers all the time, it seems like you are using them as an excuse to not put effort into your relationship.
I want a flower....:(

if its a special occasion then for sure! I dont think guys care much for flowers but on such days as bdays and valentines day women adore flowers. More so flowers should be given as a reward for her GOOD behaviour, not out of the blue if she mis behaved!
Find out her favourite flowers and surprise her every now and then after she was a good girl (cooked for you, great sex etc).

^^ what are we ... animals??
man: "go fetch my slippers bitch."
woman: "certainly"
man: "well done, good girl. as a reward i shall buy you flowers."
alternatively ...
man: "go get my slippers bitch."
woman: "get off your ass and get them yourself you lazy sh*t."
man: "ohh is that right? well ... no flowers for you"
the latter is feminism at its best.

Well put it this way, I dont condone bad behaviour from women, men or animals. So if my friend has psised me off I will not go out of my way any time soon to help him. If my dog chased every cat in the street then I will also not buy him a nice bone to chew... if my GF was moody and bitchy towards me because she was in a bad mood. I will not buy her flowers or chocolates as a "thank you." This goes for anyone!

lol the bit that got me was the fact that in order to be "good girls" we have to cook for y'all and give great sex, presumably on call.
nice, very nice.
bad behaviour, as opposed to not cooking or giving great sex, is being disrespectful to the opposite sex and discrediting them, stereotyping them into archetypal women's roles. please.
stuff the flowers lol, the game works both ways. you "misbehave", no sex for you. which one would you rather?? lol

Great points Liz! you are a smart girl and know the game quiet well... ;) Im sure you keep boys on their toes...
But yeah if a girl goes out of her way for me (cooks for me, gives me massage, makes me break fast) then I will reward her cos she is doing a nice thing for me and needs to be rewarded!
