After many a thread on peoples equipment etc, i've decided to post up a pic of my setup that im beginning to build up.

Its years away from a reasonable monitoring environment however for 'playing' around in production it is fulfilling most of what i was looking for in it..


Ohk, well i got my powerbook as the core of my system, running reason, ableton and cubase. Using a firebox firewire interface to plug in sampler, mixer. I send an out from my interface through my mixer to use the filters then route it back into the computer. Got a pretty tacky midi keyboard but since i cant play it for sh*t it does the job. Also route the SP404 into the chain as a sampler and efx processor. And it all comes out of my gene's... damn they are good speakers and you wouldnt believe the price i paid on them

Planning on getting some more midi controllers, trigger finger, something with a heap of sliders mayb a bigger and better keyboard...

The speakers ended up costing me around 1.7k [rrp is like 3k.. dont ask how i got em that price] keyboard bout 250, laptop bout 3.5k mixer bout 3k sampler bout 700 firewire bout 550 plus cdjs, tts are used here and there..

Well im about the buy a control surface to mimmick a conventional dj mixer...

Im yet to really dig deep into composing stuff as of yet.. im mostly doing re-edits, remixes, booties n stuff atm..

once again those monitors have covers on them which muffles the sound i dont understand why ur spending so much on equipment guys???

Many soundwaves are produced from the back of the driver... thats why nearly all speakers are ported..

TKO, your talking about minute [sp?] diffraction from the speaker grills.. As it stands my speakers are sitting on old yr 12 text books.. Were not talking about an acoustically sound area here.. My speakers arent even aligned properly.

If and when i am actually capable of producing my OWN track.. no remixers, minimal sampling, write my own basslines, synths etc is when ill start looking at isolating the speakers aligning them properly running better power cables, better xlr cables creating an acoustically perfect room. Atm genelec is a highly respected nearfield monitor and is perfect for sample tweaking etc..

The reason i spend the money on equipment i do is quite simple really...

1. i bought my xone 92 about 2 years ago when the clubs were still using those djm 600s.. after that purchase it changed my perspective.
You buy a cheapy device and it wears out, sounds terrible and is probably assembled in a chinese sweat shop, you spend a little bit extra get something with good build quality and you will only have to buy that piece of equipment once..

Wonder why the technics 1200 are so popular..

with how difficult "perfect" acoustical situations are to achieve, my method is to use my micro-monitors to hear what you'd hear, say, on a semi-decent home stereo, while using my headphones to hear it accurately
