Freestyle @ Fed Square is an event presented by Federation Square and produced by Cultural Infusion Ltd, in partnership with the Universal Zulu Nation – Australian Chapter (Djindi Worabak).

Over 100 of Melbourne’s finest and culturally diverse established and emerging Hip Hop artists and crews from across Melbourne will be performing and battling it out live on the main stage for the public, after afternoon heats to find the best of the best.

Heats will be held in BMW Edge at Fed Square on Saturday 4th February 2006 from 4:00pm. Representing Melbourne’s multicultural Hip Hop Community on the day include: Hosts Solomon Theta and Lamaroc, Ru C.L, DJ Wasabi, MC Raceless, Volk Makedonski (Curs Ov Dialect), Ciecmate (Hospice Crew), Fairooz, DJ Jumps (Cat Empire), DJ Jezroc, MC Raid (RKS), Jolz (heavyweight TV), Zulu King Excel and many more!!

The day will include free workshops in the true culture of Hip Hop, presented by The Universal Zulu Nation. To take part you must book by 27th January. You can pick up registration forms from ‘This Is It’, located below Richmond train station, or through contacting PAN Event Entertainment. Places in each workshop are limited to 20 so first in will get a place. First in first served!!

Battles and Comps will be held in the following categories, with great prizes to be won:

* Breakin
* Hip Hop dance
* Freestyle Emceeing
* Beatboxing
* Production

It's basically an event run by the Zulu Nation to show a display of hiphop culture that is open for all people to attend and check out. There will be the above-mentioned competitions, workshops and live performances. It's also free of charge and in the heart of the city!

Production of an instrumental rap beat. These are the rules that are on their registration form:

PRODUCTION COMP:

Producers will need to provide their own laptop and headphones for the battle. You will be given a CD with a selection of samples, which you must use to create a Hip Hop Beat within a time frame of two hours. You are able to include other sounds, but all provided samples must be utilized and recognisable. You will be judged on the following:

· Quality of sound
· Ability of the production to be used as a rap beat
· Crowd response
· Originality
· Creativity in use of samples

Because it's Zulu Nation run I'm guessing that it'll be judged by professional beatmakers.
