Use the internet wisely, it is a wealth of info...

16th December, 05, 01:42 PM
What i think people should do, is get that Dj Program whateva it's called and mix it up, until u think you are good enough to become a pro one, and buy your own set, otherwise waste of time and money, unless you have heaps of talent :)
LOVEJ
16th December, 05, 01:48 PM
A dj program is NOTHING like the 'real/pro' thing...
Teknoboy
16th December, 05, 01:59 PM
It's a start to becoming big though, if u start from there you would be better than starting straight from the dj place, and wasting **** loads of money on programs :)
LOVEJ
16th December, 05, 02:01 PM
No you wont... a computer program GIVES NO practice to beatmatching AT ALL.. all they do is either 'warp' the tracks to be in sync or 'auto mix'
Teknoboy
16th December, 05, 02:19 PM
Sorrrryy Mr no it all, you can go waste your money on programs then, i'll be right at the computer for a while, and if i do get a set, then i won't be as bad as a beginer, if i practise
dj_stick
16th December, 05, 02:36 PM
lol pc programs are useless, even realtime ones like traktor
i used to use that a while ago, but it's a waste of time learning, you're much better off using vinyl or even cd

DJ Beau J
16th December, 05, 05:44 PM
I think it's easier to learn with Vinyl actually
I learnt with Vinyl and then moved to CDs for the simple reason that it is cheaper
dj_stick
16th December, 05, 06:16 PM
i'm gonna stick with playing mostly vinyl when i get my decks next week, might be more expensive, but i prefer the more hands on approach, and the quality is better

Tiesto is an overhyped, overrated piece of **** with a bout 3 or 4 good songs.
Yoji Biomehanika, DJ Wag, Judge Jules, Abel Ramos and Scot Project...now your talking.

Oh and just for the record, his remix of Adagio For Strings is NOT better than Ferry Corsten's remix!
The only Tiesto track that I have always like is his remix of the theme to A Clockwork Orange and I don't mind some of his songs with Corsten as 'Gouryella'.

I believe they've both done remixes. Cygnus X's remix is called "The Orange Theme" where as Tiesto's is "A Clockwork Orange" (Remix).
I'll send it to you on MSN if you'd like.

i just haven't been abel to find any track by that name with tiesto as the artist. It's also quite possible you have a mis-tagged mp3 file|
EDIT: to put the thread back on track, i've ordered myself the following gear:
2x Numark TT500
2x Shure M44G Carts
1x Numark DM1090x Mixer
1x Numark PHX Headphones

http://www.discogs.com/release/34959
Live @ Innercity, Amsterdam RAI, mixed by Dj Tiesto.
Last track on that album is "The Orange Theme" by Cygnus X
And the most likely source for the mistagged mp3 (in which case, both the artist and title would have been tagged wrong)
Unless, tiestos 'remix' of "a clockwork orange" is under a different name (maybe Theme from Norefjell? (not really that similar))
Tommy 'O' Groove
16th December, 05, 10:00 PM
'Not really similar', no way in hell there are even considered similar'. There both 2 different tunes:S
Nsonic
16th December, 05, 10:10 PM
Exactly.
Closest relation tiesto has to 'a clockwork orange' is either doing a one-off remix that never got a release (possibly for a cd) or having it in his tracklist for the above mentioned cd
Someone could also just have mis-tagged "theme of norefjell" as "a clockwork orange (remix)". Similar sounds are used, and that could be a coincedence, but someone could have made that mistake.

tiesto is not a recording artist...he juz rocks crowds all over the world and has been prominently the best dj in the world for abt 5 years now...and he cost 250g....which tells u pretty much how good he is for a 4 hour set

most popular, not the best. (despite what djmag polls say)

better torque in the numarks, far less costly, does what i need it to. i paid $1575 all up, and it'd have to fork out almost $1100 just for a single 1200
if you have the chance, test out the tt500, you'd be surprised, the 1200s are NOT the be all and end all.
Anyway this is just for starting out, i might upgrade later on
oh and Taner tiesto is a recording artist, although quite a poor one of late

wel lthose guys have been around for years right? so it's logical to assume they haven't considered, i mean really considered, other brands. In recent times there's been quite a few turntables that'll give the 1200s a run
LOVEJ
18th December, 05, 12:18 AM
No doubt they might give a 1200 a run for its money...
but i just dont see the point in spending hours upon hours at home playing on a deck with a higher torque rating then one that your going to see in a nightclub....
It will be tough for your first few club experiences because the 1200's just wont react the same... damn, i struggled on 'worn' technics my first club experience..
dj_stick
18th December, 05, 05:09 AM
The numarks have adjustable torque, so i could always drop it down to the 1.7 or whatever the technics have if i need to practice before going to play at a club

Ivan Gough
Being in the dance music business for over 15 years has made Ivan one of Australia's foremost DJ/producers. With a list of remix and production credits as long as your arm and a DJ history that includes local, national and international gigs, he knows the dance industry backwards. He runs his own production studio during the day, recently remixing tracks for Sander Kleinenberg and Miss Kitten. Whilst as a DJ he holds residencies at Room and Q Bar in Melbourne (not to mention playing most of the big dance festivals). As main instructor on the DMC DJ Course, he covers all aspects of DJ'ing and music production, giving up all the trade secrets he's learned!
Les Toth
From doorman to DJ, bodyguard and actor, quite simply Les is "the" legend in the Melbourne scene. He's been DJ'ing for over 27 years and has played virtually every venue in and around Melbourne. Les stops by to chat about his wealth of industry experience and to drop a few pearls of wisdom. He passes on the information only years in the business can provide, covering all aspects of DJ'ing and surviving in the dance music business.
Jono Fernandez
Originally from Canberra, Jono rose to the top of the national capital's DJ ladder, before settling in Melbourne. He's a sometime producer, remixer and DJ, as well as a master on "Ableton Live". A DJ who blurs the lines between live music and DJ'ing, he'll teach you how to create the ultimate DJ set using CDs, turntables, effects and Ableton Live.
Flagrant (had the dirty Dou 2 years ago)
As one of Oz's finest turntablists, a major playa in the Aussie hip hop scene and one of the first hip hop DJ's to embrace new technology, Flagrant has continued to push the boundaries of turntablism. He stops by to teach scratching and other turntablist tricks, and to show you some of the latest DJ technology, "Serato Scratch Live."
Karl, Lance and Brett
Collectively known as the DMC boys, they are part of the new breed of Melbourne DJs. Playing venues as diverse as Revolver, Sunny, 331/3 and 161, they're here to help you perfect your mixing technique.

anyone in the south eastern area, there's a course at Shadow Dance in Moorabbin, opposite from the town hall.
It's the course that I did, i learnt quite a bit in the 6 lessons, and while I didn't come out a technical expert, neither did anyone else.
Courses like this won't make you an expert DJ, but they'll help you in the right direction with how to practice, how the whole setup works etc.
It all depends on how dedicated you are, and whether you're willing to fork out the cost for both the equipment and the course.

Your best is to go watch a dj that knows what their doing, dropping acapella's, good eq work etc and just sit there and observe for half-n-hour or so...
