MTV’s plans to hold a rap version of Popstars got out of
control, when 3,000 wannabe’s turned up at Times Square in New York to get their 15 seconds of fame, and a brawl broke out. “MC Battles” was to broadcast the auditions, the winner who would get
$25,000 and a record deal with Def Jam Records. Entrants came from all over the US, and in the melee, two of the 200 cops who turned out were injured, and four were arrested. A new date for
auditions will be announced.
