News from Beat Magazine:
Police are investigating an incident at the Duke of Windsor
during a gag the Sydney’s The Drugs, when $4500 worth of damage was done to their equipment. All four tires on the hire car were slashed, cigarette butts thrown at them, a drink poured over a
laptop computer, and equipment damaged. Messages scrawled on their merchandising stand – “you bitches started it” and “28 Days rock” pointed the finger at 28 Days fans. The feud began when Drugs
singer Ian Baddley accused 28 Days singer Jay Dunne, via the Drugs website, of being homophobic and using the words “faggots”, “sluts” and “whores” onstage on Big Day Out. In a later statement,
Baddley added, “This attack was poorly thought out and regardless of its success in destroying our show, was a cowardly and stupid attack borne of an intellectually impaired “pack mentality”. (Not
unlike the tactics currently used by George W and his supporters). Two members of 28 Days were present at the gig. Jay (lead singer of 28 Days) was one of these, but he had no contact with any of
The Drugs. While I’m sure a large percentage of the gig going public (i.e. Alex Lloyd fans) would be grateful to the perpetrators for destroying our show, the constant ‘side of stage’ death threats
made for a less than comfortable gig for the punters that were there.”
Meantime, the merits of the destruction continues on in their websites and discussion site mono.net .
