**** I am tired! I don’t mean to swear but after being on the phone till 3am, then having evil hellspawn sisters wake you up by running up and down the stairs and watching TV really loudly, then spinning for two and a half hours at Metro and just starting a review now, give me a break :P.
The day started out nicely as always, easy train ride, another Kebab from Parliament Kebabs (top quality Kebabs right there), and then went inside to say my hello’s, talk to Terry, I love you Terry! And eat my Lunch. Then I went into the RnB room where Dwayne was enjoying himself with a mix then allowed me to have my go while he ran around and completed a few errands. After a little while Josie called me and told me to go out and get her and Jocelyn. We then ran back upstairs with DW in tow for more mixing with DJ Josie in the mix and listening to what goes well with what.
It was about 3.15 and Joc decided she had the munchies and so did DW so we all went down to Hungry Jacks for a bite to eat. We came back by about 3.30 after getting Samira a card (but forgetting Shabel, I’M SORRY DUDE!) to see that a line had already started to form, an hour and a half before the event and it was already looking strong. We went inside and said hello to Joe and checked out the hippy pass for the next event (Metro Goes Retro, Friday May 7th). We then went back upstairs and had abit more of a mix. TKO then called Dwayne to tell him that Rob M (look I mentioned his name in a review and he wasn’t even there!) was sick and in bed so, he was gonna take Rob’s spot. Before long he was there, it was 5.00 and it was time to get the party started.
He kicked it off with It’s You, It’s Me, which is Josie’s tune that she cries to cause it’s a happy one . Now I have to say this, I remember when Theo couldn’t mix, this was awhile back when he was still a Lasallian, but since then he’s come a long way and he played a top set, tight mixing, and skilful with the accapella’s. Franky G claims it was his idea, but we all know better don’t we kids? ;). Jk you know how I feel for you Franky. The crowd was flowing in hard and fast and everyone was looking happy.
Phil Ross was next onto the decks being the real crowd pleaser that he is, and also edging on VJ (Visual Jockey) with his using the monitor above to play new film clips. The whole crowd was then blessed with seeing the new Cristian Alexander film clip, and a few lucky fans actually got to go back stage and meet the man himself. By this time the first fugitive had also been found, Mikey C guessed it straight away, but it was Jocelyn and Ines that found Sexy Tash.
We then went for a walk upto the Retro room to say howdy ho to the sex machine retro DJ Piero, singing Girls Just Wanna Have Fun at the top of his lungs. Then into the Bourke Street Bar where DJ Pix was spreading the word of the Religion of House Music, everyone must remember, House is your religion, and the DJ is your God. It was about this point that the ever smiling Erryn decided to arrive and say howdy to everyone which was nice of her :P.
Then another walk to find Theo cause I needed to borrow some of his tunes to play during the 2.5 hour set I was doing! He got them and it was show time . I started off with the new tune by Thomas Bangalter & DJ Falcon (Also known as Together) called Call On Me which is gonna blow the house scene apart very soon. And I went on from there. After about an hour Pix came back and me and him owned the decks for an hour with a major battle to the death of nothing but top quality house tunes, while still keeping on the commercial side.
Now it’s time for me to rant and rave about the mix that’s going to be giving Franky G wet dreams for about a year :P. Pix had just dropped ESamba and I told him I was gonna play Edony for Tash, so he told me to play the accapella of it first which just has the claps, the vocals and a nice bongo solo. So I did, but then had the ingenious idea of cutting out ESamba all together by turning off the turntable so it would slow down before cutting out. I then started ESamba again from the beginning with just the claps and then the build up, but the 4 beats before it kicked I cut out ESamba again and just had a 4 beat bongo solo on the accapella, then chucked back up ESamba to kick in and took out the accapella. Then I went to the start of Edony and 32 beats before the main break down in ESamba I started Edony so as the break down started Edony kicked in hard and I lost the plot :D. Ok Josh, breathe, it’s ok.
After that my favourite quote said by Mr G was “Josh, you’re not very good… You’re fucken amazing…” I was smiling from ear to ear . We kept it up for a lil longer before Franky, Theo & Robbie had to leave so I finished off the night with Bob Sinclair – The Beat Goes On, and it was a good finish.
I then returned to the main room to listen to the end of Phil G’s set and the end of a top night for me. And for quite afew MU crew members with Berri, Ines & Jocelyn all finding a fugitive and winning a prize.
I had an amazing night, and I’m giving it another 10 out of 10. Joe and Erol have really outdone themselves these holidays and I’m giving them a standing ovation.
As a final note I’d appreciate if everyone kept Dwayne and his family, especially his sister, in their thoughts and prayers for the coming while. I know that times like these can be tough so I’m gonna be there to support him if he needs me.
